On Thursday, El Salvador announced that, together with stablecoin company Tether, it will offer 1,000 residency visas in exchange for a $1 million investment in Bitcoin or Tether in the country. 

The program, known as the “Adopting El Salvador Freedom Visa Program”, can be a way to gain citizenship in El Salvador and could raise $1 billion in investments. 

Investors will receive their passports after a one-time payment of their crypto investment. To initiate the process, they need to make a nonrefundable deposit of $999 in Bitcoin or Ether and sign up at an [application page](https://adoptingelsalvador.gob.sv/register).

El Salvador is known to be crypto-friendly under the leadership of its president, [Nayib Bukele](https://www.cryptoflash.report/articles/el-salvador-president-nayib-bukele-to-run-for-re-election). In 2021, it became the first country to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender.
