### According to a statement from FTX, the beneficiaries are being urged to repay back the donations received from Sam Bankman-Fried during the last election cycle or risk potential consequences.

In a press release, FTX requested that beneficiaries of their political donations return their money, and gave them until February 28th to do so.

According to unusual_whales (@unusual_whales) on Twitter, SBF donated "dark money" to Republicans and contributed $42 million to the Democrats. “Dark money” refers to funds raised for the purpose of influencing elections by organizations that are not required to disclose the identities of their donors.

Bankman-Fried was the Democratic Party's second-largest donor in the previous election cycle. SBF has been an outspoken supporter of Democratic politicians even before FTX was founded in 2019. He is also one of the top contributors to President Joe Biden's 2020 campaign who gave $6.2 million from Alameda Research and $5.2 million from FTX.US. 



The Democratic and Republican parties may be forced to give back all of the political contributions from SBF as a precedent was set in 2009 when a former Democrat Party fundraiser who had donated billions of dollars was forced to return the funds after being sued for violating the law by giving to political campaigns in other people's identities. In the case of FTX, these political contributions were made using money invested by its customers.



Some of the political people who have received substantial donations from SBF are currently working with their attorneys to solve the issue; others have already resorted to donating their money to charitable organizations in a bid to distance themselves from the failing corporation and its donations.
