### Kaspersky's Securelist publication noted that crime scenes will spill over into the metaverse. 

Among their [predictions](https://securelist.com/consumer-threats-2023/108112/) for 2023, Kaspersky included the risks of crimes spreading into the metaverse, including sexual exploitation and abuse. Kaspersky cited Insider's report on avatar [abuse](https://www.businessinsider.com/researcher-claims-her-avatar-was-raped-on-metas-metaverse-platform-2022-5) and noted that such incidents of exploitation or abuse may indeed rise in 2023. 

Data privacy will also be a critical aspect of user protection in the metaverse, as the nascent technology is showing use cases across different spheres. 

Entertainment, business, and education will all have metaverse elements as network adoption rises. It is important that security firms such as Kaspersky are pointing to sensitive areas that regulation, industry standards, and legislation should consider addressing.
