The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) [announced](https://www.mas.gov.sg/news/media-releases/2023/mas-partners-policymakers-to-foster-responsible-digital-asset-innovation) that it is collaborating with the Financial Services Agency of Japan (FSA), the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA), and the U.K.’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to test digital asset programs in fixed income, foreign exchange, and asset management products. 

Tokenization uses blockchain technology to digitize real assets to improve the efficiency of financial transactions. Project Guardian, an initiative spearheaded by MAS, aims to identify the opportunities and risks in adopting asset tokenization.

Project Guardian initially involved 15 financial institutions. However, as the studies grew in scale, MAS identified the need for closer collaboration with other policymakers, leading to the creation of a group composed of FSA, FCA, and FINMA. 

According to MAS Deputy Managing Director Leong Sing Chiong, the partnership “shows a strong desire among policymakers to deepen our understanding of the opportunities and risks arising from digital asset innovation.”




Launched in May last year, Project Guardian’s objective is to advance digital asset tokenization and DeFi applications.
