Judge James Mellor highlighted in the court's decision that because Bitcoin has a "file format" with digital transactions that combine to create blocks in a blockchain, therefore it cannot be regarded as a literary work and protected by copyright. 

The judge further stated that the Bitcoin File Format could not be protected by copyright since the claimant had not adequately defined and demonstrated it.
