In a recent market fluctuation, Bitcoin experienced a significant drop, falling under the $41,000 mark. It dipped 7.5% to $40,521, although it later recovered to $42,010 as of 2:10 p.m. on Monday in Hong Kong.

This downturn was not isolated to Bitcoin. Other tokens like Ether, XRP, Polkadot, and Cardano also saw declines. 

Despite this, Bitcoin has shown remarkable growth this year, largely fueled by expectations of regulatory approvals for the first U.S.-based exchange-traded funds (ETFs) directly investing in Bitcoin. This potential development is anticipated to expand the investor base for cryptocurrencies. Additionally, speculation about the Federal Reserve's interest rate cuts in 2024 has spurred a rally in the market.

Year-to-date, Bitcoin has surged over 150%, leading to a recovery in the digital asset market from a significant downturn in 2022 that saw a $1.5 trillion loss in value. However, Bitcoin's current value is still considerably lower than its peak of nearly $69,000, achieved over two years ago during the pandemic.

On December 11, Bitcoin experienced a sudden decline in value, dropping by 6.5% and falling below the $41,000 mark. This sharp decrease effectively erased approximately five days' worth of its prior gains.
