### In the past few days, BTC has been rallying and just a few hours ago touched the $21k price. As this is happening, the US dollar has been showing weakness as measured by the DXY and altcoins are showing relative weakness as the BTC dominance (BTC.D) is on the rise.

It’s always nice to pull out some popcorn and soda to watch bear market rallies. These rallies aren’t expected to become parabolic like in a full blown bull market. They do give comfort and give some indication that the worst may really be behind us.

On the weekly chart, the bitcoin price has shown a nice long green candle, larger than what we’ve seen in all of 2022. This could really be a good turning point. Also the last large red candle was right about the time of the FTX debacle in early November 2022. We are now returning to the pre-FTX collapse price range of BTC. We actually hope that we stay there for a while so we can continue to cost average into bitcoin and our favorite altcoins.

The US Dollar Currency Index (DXY) on the other hand is showing signs of weakness. Could this also be the start of a change in trend? Typically, the BTC price has extreme difficulty in rising when the USD is strong, and vice versa. So, a weakening DXY could be seen as giving ‘breathing room’ for BTC to move upward or at least stay within a range.

The BTC dominance briefly touched 43%. A prolonged, healthy rise in the BTC dominance has been observed in the last cycle as something that precedes the altcoin season. This chart indicates that while crypto in general has enjoyed a strong rally, bitcoin has taken the lion’s share. 

The relative value of bitcoin as against altcoins may also be entering a trend. A rising bitcoin dominance is strong argument in favor of stacking sats over altcoins, at least for duration of the trend. Then, at some point after the BTC.D has had enough time to rise, another strong altcoin season is expected.
