### We have all heard the basic but effective advice given to investors - buy low and sell high. Are prices low now? We explore what the EMA ribbon tells us about the price. 

If we take a look at the data of the BTC price as far back as possible, the rise in value is astronomical. The chart below shows the BTC price movement from around 2011 to the present.

BTC rose from cents to an all time high close to $70,000.00. Based on past performance, BTC simply rises over time. So, there is an argument to support simply buying BTC and holding it over time. However, the data also reveals that buying from BTC cyclical lows is extremely advantageous, and can yield good returns even in the next bull run. 

The chart above includes an ‘EMA Ribbon’ composed of the exponential weekly moving averages in the following time frames: 20, 25, 30, 35, 50, 45, 50, and 55. The EMA Ribbon is useful in identifying the momentum of an asset but also gives clues on when an asset is ‘cheap’. 

In theory, BTC is relatively cheap when the price is below the ribbon. This will only hold true if BTC’s long-term uptrend continues, and there is no guarantee that it will. 

But, if we apply this theory to the price of BTC now, it looks relatively cheap. BTC’s price has only been below the weekly EMA ribbon for a few periods of time.

Past data shows that these entry points found below the EMA ribbon are really few and far between. They don’t come often. We could be having a rare opportunity to buy BTC at a really good price. 

Past data also shows that buying below the ribbon had brought massive gains within the next bull run. The same data also shows that bear markets can differ in length but also that the price eventually returns above the EMA ribbon, and almost certainly, bull markets come back. 

Before the bull run returns, those who purchased BTC will be well rewarded. That said, it is ironically quite difficult, emotionally, to buy when the price is low because of fear; and, much easier, emotionally, to buy when the price is high because of the euphoria.
