### Citi's latest report on cryptocurrency adoption suggests that the widespread use of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) and tokenization of real-world assets could be the catalyst for the next wave of cryptocurrency adoption.

The report titled "Money, Tokens and Games" highlights the potential of blockchain technology in the financial industry and how it is approaching a critical “inflection point” that will result in mass adoption with billions of new users.



Citi's Future of Finance head Ronit Ghose predicts that by the end of the decade, CBDCs will have $5 trillion in circulation. Although most of this currency would not be blockchain-based, Ghose emphasized that it would have blockchain interoperability or be distributed ledger technology-specific.



The report also notes that tokenization could become a game-changer for various industries, such as real estate, art, and collectibles, by allowing fractional ownership and trading of assets that were previously illiquid.
