### Coinbase has taken the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to federal court to demand regulatory clarity on crypto. The move comes after eight months has passed since Coinbase formally requested the SEC to draft regulations for the industry in a petition submitted to the agency last July 2022, yet there has been no formal response to their request.

This lack of response has resulted in Coinbase taking legal action against the SEC, hoping to force the agency to provide a response to their petition. Different government agencies have been squabbling over oversight authority, and politicians have struggled to enact legislation that would create clear rules for crypto.
