### The Federal Reserve has made it very clear that they have no intention of stopping rate increases too soon and that they intend to move more in the direction of taking an aggressive stance rather than run the danger of being too lenient on inflation.

The Federal Reserve of the United States made an announcement on Wednesday that it was going to increase interest rates by 0.25%, which will bring interest rates to a range of 4.50% to 4.75%.



The increase was widely anticipated by the market observers as the probability of the raising interest rates by 25 basis points was 98.4% according to the survey conducted by CME Group.



The Federal Reserve stated that they continue to anticipate that ongoing increases will be appropriate in order to attain a stance of monetary policy that is sufficiently restrictive to return inflation to 2% over time.



According to Fed Chair Jerome Powell, inflation is still running very hot and they are taking into account long and variable lags; however, they have been slowly increasing rates by 25 bps and watching the disinflationary process.



Fed Chair Powell also stated that they will increase another 25 bps in the next FOMC meeting which is slated to take place from March 21 to March 22.



This has been eight consecutive increases in a row taking us to levels almost not seen since the 2008 housing market crash. For the United States inflation rate, inflation has started to retrench slowly but we are still at levels not seen since the 1980s.



After the FOMC meeting, both cryptocurrencies and US equities saw significant gains as a result of the Federal Reserve acting in a manner consistent with what they had indicated they would do in previous meetings. However, in order to identify a change in trend, Bitcoin would still need to move above its 200-day moving average.
