### In a move that signals a shift away from international payment processors, President Joko Widodo of Indonesia has called on government agencies to begin using cards authorized by local banks. 

The Bank of Indonesia is working toward the eventual replacement of international payment companies like Visa and Mastercard with its own national payment system. This decision has been driven by the need to prepare for geopolitical and international upheavals, including the economic sanctions that the United States and European Union have imposed on Russia because of its war in Ukraine.



While the President has not specifically mentioned anything related to cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin and other digital currencies could play a key role in helping Indonesia expand its digital payment options.

By embracing digital currencies, Indonesia could potentially insulate itself from some of the risks associated with using international payment processors, such as sanctions, geopolitical tensions, or economic instability.
