### Damus, a decentralized social networking program that is intended to compete with Twitter and other Web2 platforms has been released on the Apple App Store.

According to Blockworks, the purpose of Nostr is to develop a global social network that is immune to censorship and in which users are identified by a public key rather than a name or user handle, as is the case with the majority of existing social media platforms.

Damus is one of several apps being developed on top of the decentralized network protocol and is currently available on the Apple App Store.

In 2022, Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey donated around $245,000 in Bitcoin to fund the development of an open and decentralized social networking protocol Nostr, which is based on cryptographic key pairs.



Dorsey expects Web3 to disrupt many of the existing Web2-based business models. Coincidentally, Twitter CEO Elon Musk recently announced that the company will share ad revenue for its Twitter Blue Verified users.

Decentralized social media networks have been gaining traction as people have become more concerned about privacy and control over their data. Decentralized protocols allow for a more democratic and open internet by distributing control and ownership among users rather than having a central authority control the platform.



It is possible that decentralized social media networks could disrupt traditional, centralized Web 2.0 platforms. However, it is still early in the development of decentralized social media, and there are many challenges that must be overcome, including scalability and user adoption. Whether or not decentralized networks will successfully disrupt Web 2.0 remains to be seen, but they have the potential to drive significant change in the tech industry.
