### Ledger is facing significant challenges as its recently launched retrieval service encounters intense examination and dispute. The service, aimed at helping users recover misplaced seed phrases, has triggered extensive concern and disapproval among the cryptocurrency community.

One of the primary concerns raised by users is the security of their personal data when shared with third parties. Ledger's recovery service, known as Ledger Recover, operates as a subscription program for the Ledger Nano X, charging users $9.99 USD per month. 



To enhance security, the service encrypts the seed phrase into thirds and distributes the encrypted pieces to three different custodians, including Coincover and the Ledger platform itself. But the undisclosed identity of the third backup service provider contributes to customer unease, amplifying their concerns.



The reliance on multiple parties for crucial recovery functions raises a significant red flag for users. If one of the custodians were to fail or face financial difficulties, the encrypted seed phrases of a substantial number of users could be permanently lost. This potential risk has left users anxious about the overall integrity and reliability of Ledger's recovery service.



Moreover, users have expressed deep reservations about Ledger's ability to remotely activate the recovery service on the Nano X wallet. This feature has raised suspicions among customers, suggesting the presence of a deliberate backdoor. The extent of user control over their private keys has come into question, further eroding confidence in Ledger's motives and intentions.
