### Mercado Libre, the largest e-commerce platform in Latin America, has expanded its cryptocurrency trading services to Chile through its digital wallet service, Mercado Pago. This partnership with Ripio, a Latin American cryptocurrency exchange, would allow Mercado Libre to offer custody and trading services for cryptocurrencies to its users and operate on its own network platform.

The move into the Chilean market comes as no surprise since Mercado Libre has been actively working on expanding its crypto offerings across the Latin American region. In January, the company announced the creation of a new cryptocurrency called Mercado Coin that will be implemented into its loyalty program, which is an addition to expanding its crypto offerings in Brazil.



The expansion of e-commerce giant’s financial services division is part of its strategy to maintain its leadership position in the Latin American industry and enhance its market share. With this move, the company is positioning itself as a key player in the cryptocurrency space.



The introduction of Mercado Libre’s crypto services represents a watershed moment because the crypto industry in Latin America is still in its early stages of growth. If the use of cryptocurrencies continues to become more popular, it is probable that other areas of businesses will follow suit.
