### The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has brought forth a lawsuit against cryptocurrency exchange Binance and its CEO, Changpeng Zhao (CZ), on allegations of violating US securities laws. The regulatory body filed 13 charges on June 5th, accusing Binance of mishandling customer funds, providing false information to regulators and investors, and engaging in manipulative trading practices.

Among the charges, the SEC claims that Binance mixed customer funds worth "billions of dollars" and covertly transferred them to a separate entity under CZ's control. The regulator also claims that Binance misled customers regarding the efficiency of the exchange's mechanisms for identifying and preventing manipulative trading.



The lawsuit also centers on allegations that Binance did not do enough to prevent US investors from using the platform. This has drawn the SEC's attention, as it seeks to enforce stricter regulations surrounding cryptocurrency activities within the United States.



Surprisingly, the SEC filing also labels a number of cryptocurrencies as securities; these include BNB, BUSD, SOL, ADA, MATIC, FIL, ATOM, SAND, MANA, ALGO, AXS, and COTI. This strategy marks a recent shift in the SEC's approach to cryptocurrency litigation, potentially impacting the future classification and regulation of these digital assets.



Responding to the charges, Binance expressed disappointment with the SEC's actions, asserting that they have actively cooperated with the regulatory body's investigations. Binance also emphasized that it has diligently addressed the SEC's concerns and answered their inquiries. The exchange pledged to confront the SEC in a legal battle, vowing to defend itself to the "full extent of the law."



As the SEC's lawsuit unfolds, it is anticipated that the outcome of this legal clash will significantly shape the future of cryptocurrency regulation and set precedents for exchanges operating within the United States.
