### We are stating the obvious. Take self-custody of your crypto now!

One of the best innovations of crypto when it was first invented (hello bitcoin!) was that it was peer to peer money. 

There was no need for a trusted third party like a bank to hold it or transfer it for us when we needed to make payments. 

Fast forward to today, people are still keeping billions and billions of dollars on an exchange as if they are wallets. 

Exchanges are not wallets. If there is anything that we can learn from all the hacks, bankruptcies and financial fraud that causes crypto investors to lose money, it’s that we are also to blame! 

Nobody forces people to keep money on exchanges or to trust potential crooks by abandoning the power of decentralized networks and self-custody. People happily turn money over to corrupt people in the crypto industry even when the risks are staring them in the face. It’s no wonder that criminals have entered the space and taken over many projects. 

The crypto community has forgotten first principles. The crypto industry was built on change - change that supposedly brings us farther away from problems like corruption-prone traditional financial instiutions and governments with conflicts of interest. 

However, crypto has morphed into something worse: cash grabs, outright misappropriation of ‘deposits’, market making pump and dump schemes, and who knows what else. 

The lesson that we are learning and re-learning everytime there is fraud on a massive scale is that: IT’S TIME TO TAKE SELF-CUSTODY OF YOUR CRYPTO. 

Exchanges are not safe places to leave money; but, we can’t just blame the exchanges. Exchanges should not be asked to keep money. They are a exchanges. Use them to trade your tokens and nothing else.
