Investments in cryptocurrency may occasionally be regarded as material information under requirement that businesses disclose all information that potentially have an impact on their financial performance.



These documents, which include the balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement, provide shareholders with a comprehensive analysis of the health of the company's finances.



In February 2021, Tesla announced that it had invested $1.5 billion in Bitcoin and that it would soon begin accepting the cryptocurrency as a form of payment for its electric vehicles. This move was seen as a significant endorsement of the digital asset and helped to increase its mainstream acceptance. 



Tesla's investment in Bitcoin reflects a growing trend of companies investing in cryptocurrencies as a way to diversify their assets and capitalize on the potential returns offered by the asset class. Tesla made a healthy profit on its Bitcoin in 2021, however the electric vehicle company still suffered an impairment loss of $101 million during the year.



Additionally, the company sold 75% of its Bitcoin holdings in July 2022 for $936 million. According to Musk, this was done to boost the company's liquidity position in light of the uncertainty surrounding COVID's potential effects on its manufacturing in China.



Tesla currently possesses 9,720 Bitcoin with a cost basis of $337.50 million, according to BitcoinTreasuries.NET.



Between the period Tesla announced its original acquisition and now, Bitcoin's value has generally decreased. The price of the cryptocurrency is now approximately half of what it was when Tesla first announced its investment.
