### Texas lawmakers have taken a significant step toward recognizing the rights associated with cryptocurrencies by proposing an amendment to the state's Bill of Rights. The proposal, known as House Joint Resolution 146, seeks to include the right to possess, acquire, and utilize crypto assets as a fundamental right for the citizens of Texas. The resolution received overwhelming support from legislators, with 139 "yes" votes and only 2 dissenting votes.

Giovani Capriglione, a state representative, spearheaded the proposal, emphasizing that the government has no intention of outlawing cryptocurrencies. The Texas Bill of Rights, which safeguards fundamental freedoms, could provide a framework similar to the U.S. Bill of Rights for protecting the rights of individuals in the realm of digital currencies.



If the amendment is adopted and signed into law, it will not only recognize the right to possess and utilize cryptocurrencies but also allow the residents of Texas to engage in transactions using digital currencies. However, the process is not yet complete. Tom Glass, founder of the Texas Constitutional Enforcement organization, has highlighted that there is still one more vote in the House. Following that, the amendment will proceed to the Senate for another vote and ultimately require approval through a popular vote by the people.



While the proposed amendment marks a significant milestone in acknowledging the importance of cryptocurrencies, it will take some time before it becomes law in Texas. Nevertheless, the enthusiasm and support from the majority of Texas legislators signal a growing recognition of the value and potential of digital currencies in the state's economy and the lives of its residents.
