### In a move aimed at spurring the expansion of digital investments, the Thai Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced plans to relax regulations on investments by retail investors in initial coin offerings (ICOs).

The regulator intends to raise the current limit of 300,000 baht ($8,800) per person to encourage greater investment in real estate and infrastructure-backed ICOs. As a result, investors should have more chances to broaden their holdings and acquire exposure in emerging markets.

The agency also thinks that adjusting the rules concerning digital assets will better safeguard financiers and lessen the dangers connected with operators and trading activities. Guidelines for token issuers and intermediaries, as well as a streamlined approval procedure for ICOs, are among the suggested changes.

As Thailand's capital market and digital economy continue to expand, a public comment consultation period has been announced that will run until April 27th. This is an opportunity for stakeholders and interested parties to provide feedback on the proposed regulatory changes.

The Thai SEC's decision to ease restrictions on ICOs stands in stark contrast to the US SEC's approach. Under the leadership of Gary Gensler, the US SEC has ramped up its scrutiny of the cryptocurrency market and has taken a more aggressive stance against ICOs. This has caused frustration among some crypto advocates who see the SEC's stance as hindering innovation and growth.
