### The US Treasury has issued a warning stating that unregulated crypto markets pose a risk to national security. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen believes that more checks and balances need to be in place to prevent money laundering.

Some politicians have supported a negative stance toward the industry, including Yellen. Previously, Yellen flipped her stance when the White House released an executive order to study crypto, but she has lately been more critical of crypto in general.

Abuse of monetary resources for illicit activities is not unique to DeFi. Bad actors have used traditional currencies and legacy finance systems to conduct illegal activities for centuries.  

With the right regulations and security measures in place, DeFi can be a transformative force for good in the financial industry.
