### One major challenge in analyzing the bitcoin price trend is that bitcoin has not gone through a full-blown recession. Looking at the past chart gives no clues on how bitcoin will behave in a recession. However, does the entire past chart of bitcoin give a clue on what will happen AFTER the recession?

Bitcoin was developed to provide solutions to the problems seen in the 2008 recession. One major problem identified was the that the U.S. dollar and other major world currencies are subject to certain controls by a central authority. Government control is not a bad thing per se. 

However, people questioned whether the government was printing too much money - and also dislike how the decision of the government to print more money reduces the value of the money saved. There was strong sentiment that incompetence or corruption in determining whether to print more money or not was a problem. If the central authority makes a mistake, everyone that holds the currency will suffer. 

Bitcoin was designed to provide a solution by fixing the maximum number of coins that would ever be in circulation: 21 million. But, not everything went as planned. The Whitepaper of bitcoin describes it as a peer to peer currency. Even after over a decade, bitcoin is not being used as a currency but more as a store of value, a digital asset. 

Currently, there are crypto projects that are trying to fix this problem by building a chain that will work on top of bitcoin (layer 2 solutions) like the lightning network. Layer 2 solutions will provide speed for small transactions, and still connect to the bitcoin network for security and integrity. 

But, even this has not received widespread adoption at the level of sms or email, in the earlier days of mobile and internet adoption. So, we are arguably still very, very early in the life of bitcoin. 

If we enter a full-blown global recession similar to 2008, one could argue that bitcoin will respond in exactly the same way as it did after the 2008 recession. The price of BTC against the US dollar will skyrocket. 

In the meantime though, it appears that volatility is here to stay and btc buyers will continue to try to guess where the bottom is. We do not believe it is a worthwhile endeavor to try to find the bottom, but rather believe that is a good time to be buying. 

Our preferred method is to cost average. But, in times like these, a dynamic cost average method could pay off well. For instance, one may increase the fiat spent on btc incrementally as the price of btc goes down; then, if the price of btc starts to rise, the amount of fiat spent to cost average could be decreased as well. 

This BTC chart shows the present price well below the monthly EMA ribbon, which could be downward pressure resulting of the anticipated recession compounded with the crypto cyclical bear market:

If BTC resumes the same kind of upward trajectory after the coming recession, the present price levels could be the best opportunities we will see in a long, long time - until perhaps right before the next following recession. Considering that the time between 2008 recession and the coming recession is close to a decade and a half, we could arguably be seeing the best relative price for the next decade and a half!
